Free GEO audit: Is your brand cited by AI?
Enter your website. Mark counts how many AI answers cite it as a source, and compares you with your competitors.
The essentials in 30 seconds
A GEO audit shows whether ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews cite your website and name your brand against your competitors.
- In the US market, the tool analyzes ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews answers.
- You get a GEO score out of 100 and a level (Invisible, Weak, Fair or Strong).
- Your share of citations against competitors counts for 50 of the 100 points.
- The tool checks 5 AI crawlers in your robots.txt and looks for an llms.txt file.
- The audit is free, needs no sign-up and takes about 30 seconds.
Your buyers ask ChatGPT for vendor shortlists. They also read the AI Overview at the top of Google. If your website is missing from those answers, a competitor takes your place.
This free GEO audit tool works as an AI visibility checker for your brand. Enter your website address, choose the United States as your market and add up to 3 competitors. In about 30 seconds, you see whether AI cites you and who it cites instead.
What is a GEO audit?
A GEO audit measures how visible your brand is in AI-generated answers. It checks whether ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews cite your website as a source. It also compares your share of citations with your competitors'. Finally, it verifies that AI crawlers can access your website.
GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization. It covers everything you do to get cited by AI search engines. An AI visibility audit and an SEO audit work together, but they track different signals.
| Criterion | SEO audit | GEO audit |
|---|---|---|
| What you track | Your rankings in Google results | Your citations in AI answers |
| Key question | Does my page rank well? | Is my website cited as a source? |
| Main metric | Position and clicks | Share of citations against competitors |
| Technical access | Search engine crawlers | AI crawlers such as GPTBot and ClaudeBot |
| Brand mentions | Rarely tracked | Counted in AI answers |
Your SEO remains the foundation, because Google AI Overviews draws on the pages Google indexes. ChatGPT can also search the web live before it answers. So your public pages count on both engines.
What our GEO audit tool measures
The engines the tool analyzes depend on the market you choose. In the US, it covers ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews. That makes it a ChatGPT visibility checker and a Google AI Overviews checker in one audit.
| Market | AI engines analyzed |
|---|---|
| United States | ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews |
| France | Google AI Overviews |
AI answers that cite your website as a source
A citation is a link to your website in the sources of an AI answer. The tool counts the ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews answers that cite you, in a database of real AI answers. Each citation can send a qualified visitor to your website.
Answers that name your brand
An AI answer can also name your brand without linking to your website. The tool counts these mentions separately. They show that LLMs know your brand, even when they send no traffic.
Your rank and share of citations against competitors
You can add up to 3 competitors. Otherwise, the tool detects them from the keywords you share on Google. It then calculates your rank and your share of citations. You see right away which competitor captures the sources on your topics.
AI crawler access and the llms.txt file
The tool reads your robots.txt file and checks these 5 AI crawlers.
| Crawler | Company |
|---|---|
| GPTBot | OpenAI |
| OAI-SearchBot | OpenAI |
| ClaudeBot | Anthropic |
| PerplexityBot | Perplexity |
| Google-Extended | Google (for Gemini) |
It also checks whether you publish an llms.txt file and shows the result. A blocked crawler cannot read your pages, so it cannot cite them.
How your GEO score is calculated
Your AI visibility score runs from 0 to 100. It adds up 4 criteria.
| Criterion | Points | What the tool looks at |
|---|---|---|
| Share of citations against competitors | 50 | Your citations compared with the most cited site among your competitors |
| Presence in answers | 30 | Your citations plus half of your brand mentions |
| Engines covered | 10 | The AI engines of your market where you appear |
| AI crawler access | 10 | 2 points per AI crawler allowed in your robots.txt |
| Total | 100 |
Competition makes up half of your score. A website cited often stays fragile if its competitors get 3 times more citations. With no competitor compared, the score uses the other 3 criteria.
How presence is counted
Each citation counts as 1 and each brand mention counts as 0.5. The tool then applies a logarithmic scale that reaches the full 30 points at around 1,000. Your first citations raise your score quickly. After that, each new citation adds a little less.
What counts for crawler access
Only your robots.txt counts here. Each of the 5 crawlers you allow earns 2 points. The tool shows your llms.txt status in the report, but it adds no points to your score.
The 4 score levels
| Level | Score | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Invisible | 0 to 24 | AI answers almost never cite your website |
| Weak | 25 to 49 | You appear, but competitors capture most citations |
| Fair | 50 to 74 | AI cites you regularly and you still have room to grow |
| Strong | 75 to 100 | You rank among the reference sources against your competitors |
How to improve your GEO score
Open your website to AI crawlers
Open your robots.txt and look for Disallow rules. Allow GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended. Each crawler is worth 2 points, and one update often fixes all 5.
Then publish an llms.txt file at the root of your website. It lists your key pages in Markdown for LLMs. Your score stays the same, but the audit reports whether the file is there.
Write pages that ChatGPT can cite
AI engines quote short, clear passages. On your strategic pages, apply these rules:
- Open each page with a direct answer of 40 to 60 words.
- Phrase your H2s and H3s as your buyers' questions.
- Add sourced figures, dates and a named author.
- End with a short FAQ whose answers stand on their own.

Win back the queries where competitors get cited
The audit tells you how many questions cite your main competitor without you, and shows you one. Open its source pages and compare them with yours. Does it answer the question faster? Does it cover an angle you leave out?
Get your brand named beyond your website
AI engines name the brands they find across several sources. Publish op-eds, studies and customer stories in your industry media. Mentions of your brand in AI answers also count toward your presence score.
